YUMMY BATCH OF CUPCAKE ORNAMENTS

I have been dying to make these. Everywhere I turn, I come across a new version of these adorable cupcake creations. There everywhere! After seeing a few tutorials on Pinterest, I tucked it away in the back of my mind, waiting for the perfect time. And what better holiday than Valentine's Day for some yummy ornaments? So, over the weekend I decided to cook-up a batch. And here they are, ready to hang on our little pink tree for February.

Super easy to do. These are made from small cupcake liners, round styrofoam balls, faux snow for the frosting, pink and red beads for sprinkles and a splash of clear glitter. Let them dry, and "tada"! So cute, you might want to eat them. Don't forget the hook! Mine are just the end of a paperclip sticking out of the top. How fun would these be in a larger scale sitting on a plate in your kitchen?

Once I get the tree up, I will share some of my other heart ornaments that I have been working on. Happy February!

I received this story through an email several years ago and always re-read it each and every Christmas. I do not know the original author; wish I did. It touches my heart. I hope you feel the same. Enjoy.

"I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma. I was just a kid. I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her on the day my big sister dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus," she jeered. "Even dummies know that!" My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her "world-famous" cinnamon buns. I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true.Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me. "No Santa Claus?" she snorted.... "Ridiculous! Don't believe it. That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad!! Now, put on your coat, and let's go." "Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished my second world-famous cinnamon bun. "Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days. "Take this money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car." Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's. I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for. I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my church. I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker. He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out to recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough; he didn't have a good coat. I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It looked real warm, and he would like that. "Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. "Yes, ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby." The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really needed a good winter coat. I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas. That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it. Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy. Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially, one of Santa's helpers. Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going." I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma. Together, we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby. Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes. That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were. ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team. I still have the Bible, with the coat tag tucked inside: $19.95. May you always have LOVE to share, HEALTH to spare and FRIENDS that care.And may you always believe in the magic of Santa Claus!"

Do you feel like you are heading into sensory overload? With all the breathtaking decorations and images during this time of year, my mind has difficulty staying focused. I don’t want to miss anything. I don’t want to forget anything. I want to make every cookie recipe I see. And I get lost for hours perusing through the mouthwatering holiday recipes and adorable crafts/decorations on Pinterest. I’m a giddy, tingly, emotional holiday mess.

I have made a serious effort to remove any pressure from myself on any new projects for my Etsy shop this month. If I finish a few new pieces….great. If I don’t….that is OK too. This year, it is important to spend time with my family and create when the mood strikes me and the time allows. This will be my first Christmas without my Dad, and making sure my daughter feels the true meaning of Christmas is all that is important right now. I have made some fun pieces for friends, and have a couple of WIP’s waiting for completion that are turning out nicely. As they finish, I will post some pictures and add to my Etsy shop. Maybe a give-away before the end of the month?!

Ornament in memory of my Dad, who was a retired Firefighter and forever the family Santa!

We finally got our tree completed over the weekend. My daughter picked out a cute Fraser Fir…….on the short side, but full of love width-wise. It fits is well with the family! I used to be so particular about my tree, but ever since my daughter and husband did the tree decorating last year while I was sick, I have been OK with giving up the reigns. My job now is making sure the lights are on. After that, Julia and I share the decorating duties.

Don’t get me wrong. There are moments when I feel my skin start to crawl when she hangs one of my family heirlooms in a not-so-perfect spot, but I start the silent chant in my head, “It is just a tree. It is just a tree. It is just a tree.”; secretly hoping that she falls asleep early so I can move it later in the night. Truth be told, I haven’t moved a thing. She notices everything! She will call me out on it right away.

Her friends did come over the other day and broke one of my antique ornaments. As Alex’s hand reached out to touch the teardrop indent ornament, I said, “Be careful with the tree. All the ornaments are glass.” To which she stuck her thumb right through it. I jumped over to see if she was cut, and as I held the broken pieces, I could hear my own heart cry. I guess I will be hitting Ebay for a replacement.

Thank goodness for Ebay!

My vintage Santa Mugs

There is so many fun events this time of the year. So much so that if you blink, you may miss half of it. As a mom, I am forever feeling the pressure to "make - the - memories - happen". Women put so much pressure on themselves to do it all, and I too struggle at times with trying to be too much.....

be the perfect mom, perfect wife, perfect business woman, perfect mentor, perfect friend, perfect...perfect...perfect. Good golly, we are so unfair to ourselves. And the holidays just seem to bring it all to a head.

I have learned of the years to "let it go". How? Not sure, really. Maybe it comes with age. No words of wisdom, no "aha" moment for me. More a steady conscious decision to do what I can, as best I can, and if it goes wrong.....so what!

As an artist, I found early on that sometimes my biggest "mistakes" came with breathtakingly beautiful outcomes. My best work, in both art and life, humbly began as one big f-up. LOL

So let it go, and enjoy the season everyone. Memories are made from the feelings you create in others. Let that be your only goal.

Gift Shop display at the Methuen Festival of Trees

Last week, the family spent time hitting some of the local Christmas attraction. It is outings like these that help those warm feelings grow and give you a sense of connection with your neighbors and friends. The annual tree lighting in town, although very cold, was a fun night of lights, hot chocolate, cookies and Santa. Side note: don't you love it when Santa shows up and he has a REAL beard! Yeah!

We also spent a few hours at the Methuen Festival of Trees. If you live in Massachusetts and have never attending a Festival of Trees, please find out if your local town has one in your area. They can't be beat. Methuen, if I am not mistaken, was the only town to have a Festival, but I have noticed that a few more have branched out (no pun intended) to others areas.

The trees are all donated and decorated by local merchants or residents. And each tree is raffled off at the end of the event.

My camera was not kind to me that day .... but as I said before .... just let it go! There were so many gorgeous trees, but these were all I could find that were in focus - LOL

It is that wonderful...exciting...heart-warming...nostalgic...totally hectic & draining time of the year! I love every minute.

Driving by all the decorated homes in the neighborhood, you can't help but feel the splendor of the season. Not to mention the beautiful holiday pins on Pinterest. So much inspiration. If only I had the time (and money) to make my home dream decor come to life.

I have embellished ever nook and cranny of the house with glistening Christmas charm. My vintage Santas wink and smile. Everything seems better at Christmas time.

Next weekend, we will drive to our favorite tree stand and pick out one special fern that "speaks" to us. Then, an afternoon of unwrapping the many ornaments, lights, icicles, garland, and what-nots. I can't wait.

This year, I have a new and special ornament to add to my collection.

The incredibly talented Tamara Dozier at Tilted Asylum had a blog give-away a few weeks ago and, whoo hoo, I won! I nearly jump a foot when I got her email. I am so thrilled to have this snowman and will find the perfect branch for him to hang in honor. Thank you so much for letting me play, Tamara! Check out her blog everyone. HALLOWEEN IN NOVEMBER

Tonight, we finally got to hit the neighborhood and Trick or Treat, after the snowstorm a few days ago postponed the festivities in our town. It was a great night, and there were hundreds of kids roaming the streets. What fun!

Julia was a Asian Princess, or at least that is what the package from Target called it. I think it is a Geisha Girl, but I guess that isn't politically correct any longer. So Asian Princess it is.

She looked beautiful, even with the layers of cloths underneath to keep her warm. Believe me, she let me know that it ruined the "look".

My husband Jeff stayed home and passed out candy while I went out with Julia. Not to miss out on the fun, he played along as well. He is such a kid at heart.

For blocks, houses were decorated and passing out candy. This neighborhood loves to celebrate the holidays. And in a few weeks, it will become a Santa's village. Can't wait.

A SNOW-FILLED HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

JOL Snowmen are popping up everywhere in the neighbor-hood this morning! A snowy, cold, and treacherous night lead way to a sunny winter wonderland morning.

Our first snow creature was made! I can't remember the last time it snowed before Halloween. Unfortunately, because the snow was wet and heavy, many families are without power and Trick or Treating has been postponed till Wednesday November 2nd. As long as there is candy involved. Julia should be fine with that :) To celebrate the snowy spooktacular holiday, I used my hubby's skelly gloves for shoveling. Happy Halloween everyone!

DOTD BUNNY

It's just a few weeks away until the big Halloween night. Julia wants to be a Geisha Girl. She saw this adorable costume at Target weeks ago and she had to have. Of course, Mommy decided to wait till it was closer to Halloween before she bought it; knowing full well that she would change her mind at least 2 or 3 times before the big day. Well, go figure.....she didn't! And, as expected, Target doesn't have her size! No fears. I ordered it on-line and it should be here by the end of the week. Thank goodness or I would be sewing a last minute costume to make up for my procrastination. Hurray for the internet!

I finished up this cute little Dead of the Dead / Halloween Bunny Gift Box tonight and took a few quick pics to share. Tomorrow I will take "cleaner" photos in the daylight so I can get this listed on my Etsy site. Hope you like her.

SNEAK PEEK AT A NEW HALLOWEEN MEDALLION

Hi everyone,

Most of the shakers are now listed on Etsy. I have a couple still yet to finish.

I was also able to finish up a new large medallion to hang on the wall or hook on a door knob. It is large. The center wooden piece is hand painted and aged and about 6 1/2 wide. I added a hand ruffled orange crepe paper. All in all, it is about 11" wide.

There is an orange pom pom cord for hanging.

This design was inspired from a vintage Halloween image I ran across on Flickr. There is a hint of black sparkle and tons of charm. Hope you like it :)

FAMILY FUN AND A SNEAK PEEK AT AN UPCOMING GIVE-AWAY!

The weekend proved to be the perfect beginning to some lovely fall-like weather. Our church had a wonderful picnic for the parishioners with lots of yummy homemade food and sweets. There were pony rides, a bouncy house, and lots of games to keep the kids entertained. The day couldn't have been better.

My hubby decided to refurbish his drums over the weekend as well. He has always dreamed of owning a green sparkle Ludwig set. So, he tore up the old finish and re-wrapped them. Sounds easy, huh? Not so much!!! But they look great. Nice job babe.

WHEW! WHAT A WEEK.

Goodness, it has been an eventful week since Hurricane Irene hit. Luckily, Irene was more bark than bite; at least that was the case in my area. Many had it much worse and my heart go out to anyone who saw the storm at its peak.
We waiting for something "big", but it was not to be. The only downfall of the storm - no power! The electricity went out on Sunday morning at around 10:30 and it didn't return till Tuesday night. I consider myself a lucky lady, though. Some surrounding areas had no power for over a week.
We occupied our time with paper, glue and paint, games, and even a trip to Target. Yep, you heard right! The storm was fairly mild, and many local businesses still had power, so what do you do when you are bored? Hit Target and look for bargains!
Julia and I were hoping to find some cool Halloween items, but they were still in "Back-to-School" mode, so nothing interesting was had. My hubby stayed home and doodled. The things that fill that man's head! I wonder sometimes! LOL

Wednesday was the first day of school! My husband (who works from home) was doing the "happy-dance" all the way to the bus stop! Don't get me wrong, he adores spending time with Julia. But having her under feet during the summer is a complete distraction and he is looking forward to actually "working" the entire day.
Jessica, on the left, is her BFF. (Sorry about the blurry pics!) Jess lives next door and they are both in the same class. This is a good and bad thing as they tend to "chat" a little too much during school. She promises they will be better this year. Only time will tell.

Creatively, I have been working on Halloween items this week. As usual, I am making some shakers. These are just the beginning stages but I have a couple of old shakers in the background to help inspire me.

I have owls on the brain right now so hopefully I will have some OOAK pieces to share in the next week.
I have been working on a Halloween Swap with some girls at work. I will share those as well with you all.

The best news this week was the addition of a lovely new baby girl into the world. Summer was born on Friday to my dear friends, Julie and Jed. I have worked with Julie for over 15 years. She was a silly, young girl who loved to party when I first met her. She would hide out at my desk in the art room when she was hung over and needed some quite time. Now, she is all grown up, has changed departments and works for me, and is a smart, funny, lovely young woman who married a great guy and now has this adorable little bundle. Welcome to the world sweet pea!

GETTING READY FOR IRENE

Today has been a quiet Saturday, considering hurricane Irene is due to hit Massachusetts tomorrow. It was overcast and miserably humid during the afternoon, which gave way to drizzly rain and a bit cooler temps. Jeff, Julia and I are tucked in safe, ready for what Irene may toss our way. At 9:50, the rain is heavier now which always makes me sleepy. I'm hoping we don't lose power; the bad weather will make for a perfect day of crafting and creating :)

PLAYING CATCH-UP

It has been a few weeks since I have been able to spend some time with you all. Though my father's death was not unexpected, it still leaves you "disoriented". It was hard to focus at times.
The family is just beginning to get back to a routine. Thank goodness for children. My daughter knows just the right time to make me laugh. I am off work (day job) for a few days next week. Much needed vacation time. We hit the lake yesterday and enjoyed a leisurely afternoon in the sand. Today is cloudy, and the skies looks like rain is on it's way. But, Julia once again saved the day by deciding to have a "party". No reason really. She just wanted to decorate the house with balloons and make "ants-on-a-log" snacks, punch, and play pin the tail on the donkey and Candy Land. It turned out to be a fabulous idea! Our party was a success, even if it was just Jeff, Julia, and myself acting silly.
I have been "creating" here and there. I am in the middle of making new Halloween shakers. And I have completed my own version of a vintage paper pulp Santa for the Christmas season.

He is already on Etsy, and I have more fun Halloween and Christmas items in various stages of completion.
I did have to share one photo of my husbands "doodle"! Yes, he calls this a doodle.

Julia and Jeff were drawing on the coffee table this morning and I came in to find this. Of course, my reaction is always, "Did you just do that?" and he always looks surprised because, to him, this is a throw away sketch. How can I convince him that his "doodles" are sometimes his best work!? Thought I would let you have a peek into my crazy husbands mind.

WE WILL MISS YOU DAD !

Today has been a heart breaking day for me and my family. Early this morning, my father finally lost his battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He had been rushed to the hospital on Thursday and was to come home today, along with hospice care, to help make his last days comfortable. It is a difficult disease to watch a loved one go through, and I think in his heart, he did not want to burden anyone with that memory, and chose to pass on before leaving the hospital.
My Dad was a amazing man, and though I can barely think straight right now, I had to post "something", "anything" to help release some of my thoughts.
Every year, Dad would ask for only two things for Father's Day........"peace and quiet! Well Dad, I will miss you terribly and my heart aches, but I find comfort in knowing you have found your "peace".

CHRISTMAS IN JULY with Sylvia Smiser

Some months back, after taking part in a swap with talented Sylvia Smiser from Anaboo Creations, we contacted each other to join in on another swap. The first one as so much fun, how could I pass it up. Well, after getting sidetracked for a while, we finally were able to get our pieces done and sent off to each other. My only request was that it be a Christmas theme, and her request was a tea cup to go with the Halloween tea pot I sent her earlier.
Oh, what a lucky girl I am!!!!! Check out the adorable Elf she sent me. She is perfect, and now I have TWO original dolls to call my own.

BRING ON THE PATRIOTISM

Though I have been super busy with family obligations, I was able to sneak in some creative work. I had some bunny pieces that didn't make the Easter season, so I moved them into the Fourth of July. Who says bunnies aren't patriotic?!
This guy is made of paper pulp, hand-pressed into a chocolate mold, scrapbook paper lollypops and forget-me-not flowers. Crackled and aged to fit in with all your antiques and random splashes of mica flakes for some sparkle.

FATHER'S DAY AND LESSONS LEARNED

Today was a breezy, sunny, day here in New England. One of the best days of the spring so far and perfect weather to be outdoors enjoying Father's Day.
If your Dads are like mine, you would have most likely heard him say "All I want for Father's Day is peace and quiet!" My brother and I "tried" to fill his request every year, but I'm not sure how successful we were.
Now that my father's health is deteriorating, and he has lost a good portion of his hearing, I wish for the days when we could "annoy" him by interrupting a Red Sox game from our constant running and fighting in the house. Instead, he sleeps, with little knowledge of what goes on around him.
Planning this Father's Day for my husband brought back some of my own childhood memories. Yes, we promised to give him peace and quiet. Yes, we said he could watch the game. No, we did none of those things. LOL
Instead, Julia started the morning by making Jeff breakfast in bed. OK, so I did the scrambled eggs...but she makes some mean toast!

And the afternoon brought a round of miniature golf and go-cart racing. But only after he got to watch the Bruins honored at Fenway Park during the Red Sox game. It's the least we could do. After all, it was "his" day.

I decided to make his favorite food for dinner....Shrimp Creole. It is delish!

Now that I am forced to stay away from spicy foods because of my own health issues, I rarely make anything with much of a kick to it. The smells from the pot cooking were amazing. But I was a good girl. I had chicken. My stomach will thank me later.

What lessons did my father teach me over my 49 years? So many too count but here are a few.
1. Work Hard
Dad worked two jobs his whole life to make sure we had a roof over our heads and food on the table. We did not have an extravagant life, but it was a home full of love.
2. Live with integrity
He is honest to the core.
2. Family comes first
His every decision in life was made solely on how it would effected his wife and kids.
3. Be willing to laugh at yourself.
My Dad got "dressed" on every Halloween to take us kids out Trick or Treating.
He was known to completely humiliate us by picking us up at school in a makeshift "Taxi" hat and ask us for money.
He spent several years playing Santa for the local Catholic Elementary School after my sister "volunteered" him. He grumbled about it, but did it for many years, even after she stopped asking him to.
He would make up the most ridiculous songs...and oh, how I loved them.
4. Shut the lights off when you leave a room.
No explanation needed :)
5. No matter how old you get, you are always his baby.

SHRIMP CREOLE --- Make 10 servings!! Party Size!
Cut ingredients in half if you want to make for the family only.

1/4 Cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups chopped onions
1 cup chopped green onions
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped green pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (16 oz) can chopped tomatoes, undrained
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 1/2 cups water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
1/8 teaspoon hot sauce
2 or 3 bay leaves
5 pounds unpeeled large fresh shrimp
2 (10 z) packages saffron yellow rice mix
1/2 cup finely chopped fresh parsley (My photo is missing the parsley....Jeff likes it without. But the parsley add a nice splash of color)

Combine oil and floor in Dutch oven;cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until roux is chocolate colored (about 15 minutes). Stir in 1 1/2 cups of chopped onion and next 4 ingredients; cook 1 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring frequently. Stir in tomato and next 10 ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Peel shrimp and devein. Add shrimp to tomato mixture. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 mintes or until shrimp turn pink. Remove and discard bay leaves.
Prepare rice mixture to package instruction. Serve shrimp mixture over rice; sprinkle with chopped parsley.

Just weeks away from Father's Day, my Dad struggles to keep his strength. His Pulmonary Fibrosis is taking a toll on him and his decline has been fast and furious over the last two weeks. He was lucky enough to have a doctor who was willing to give him an experimental drug that allowed him a few more years to build memories with his family. For those who are familiar with the disease, it often takes hold quickly and life expectancy is short. He has lost so much weight and he sleeps most of the time. His voice, though never "booming", sounds weak at best.
My daughter wanted to take a picture of them together. Children often "sense" things. I think she knew this might be the last picture she had of him. He smiles when he sees her, and she is not afraid to go over and give him a kiss or hug.
She is so happy with her picture. And, though his fragile frame tugs at my heart, I am glad I took the picture for her.

Today, I made sure to call mom and let her know I loved her. I was going to post some heartfelt words about my Mom and on my own life as a mother of a 7 year old...or fill you in on the silly things we did to celebrate the day (FYI - it wasn't a day of rest! LOL) But, I changed my mind. I thought a little humor would help bring a smile to us busy moms' faces.
With that said, I give you the words of Tina Fey, one of the funniest woman on the planet.

This amazing felted bunny girl was created by Rebekah Conklin from Full of Bliss Creations. The detail is amazing and she screams vintage charm. I love her!

This adorable bunny sitting in a jello mold is so filled with sweetness. Tons of special details! Made by Valeria Kraft of Glittery Daze and Nights.

Theresa Whitmore of Sycamore Moon Studios felted this whimsical, amazing-beyond-words bunny. Look at that face. I want to pinch those adorable cheeks.

This golden goody was made by Cheryl Comfort from Artsy Fartsy. The sparkle and detail on this egg is breathtaking. My picture just doesn't do this justice.

Vivian vivs-whimsy, our hostess, made these two flippin' cute ornies. Yes, two! The felted chick in the glittery egg is to die for, and the felt egg ornament is as precious as can be.

My contribution was my Hippity Hoppity Bunny Ornament. I only hope that mine lived up to these talented ladies expectations.

March 20th. The First Day of Spring! After a long winter, it was a wonderful day indeed. Though cold, it was a bright and sunny day here in Massachusetts.
Not only was yesterday the beginning of a new, fresh season, it was also my Mom's birthday. She turned 81. And though her knees are bad and she has difficulty getting around, she is still one sassy chick! The family celebrated with pizza, cake, and lots of laughter.

The snow is finally melting, and here in the Northeast we are seeing the light behind the tunnel......SPRING! It has been a hard winter. I usually enjoy snow, but this was just tooooooo much.
I am looking forward the warmer temperatures. My mind is filled with all things Easter. I have doodled some sketches for new OOAK pieces. Tomorrow I begin sculpting! Bunny, chick and egg ornies! Oh my!
Last week I began pulling out some of my favorite vintage molds too! Mixing paper mache. Coming up with a new color palette. I like to mix my own colors...it's just me :)

Though I love the creativity of sculpting my own designs, there is something so nostalgic about vintage holiday molds. They bring back memories of childhood and the innocent excitement of the holidays like nothing else.
This grouping of bunny friends are dry and primed. Stay tuned for the unvailing.

One last remnant of winter before I get back to work. I finally finished my vintage Santa! In an earlier post, there were pics of this poor guy as I bought him on Ebay. But after some foot surgery, fresh paint, crackle medium, and antiquing, he looks good as (old) new! I love him. The photos aren't the best (I stink!). It doesn't show off how great the crackle looks. And, he needs a good coat of matte varnish, but I had to share. (View large)

THEY ARE DONE! My first completed pieces in months

It has been almost 3 months since I have completed any new pieces. As I mentioned the other day, I finally got to put paint on my brush and get "cooking". The final touches on my snow people have been added and I was able to take a few pics today to share. Thank goodness they were done before summer! LOL
Now that my health is back on track, I am moving along nicely and hope to get more current pieces for you to see....I have bunnies on the brain!

I am re-opening my Etsy shop this week and will have these listed by Friday.

I have also repaired my poor vintage Santa find. His leg is strong again. He has a fresh coat of gesso. He is coming along nicely.

VALENTINE'S WEEK AND BIEBER FEVER!

Valentine's Day weekend is always a favorite time of the year. I adore old vintage cards from the 50's and 60's, and the sweet nostalgia of passing them out in school. And, of course, your "special" secret crush always got the biggest and best card!
So, with the spirit of Valentine's Day in mind, here are a few "crush" inspired-stories from this past week at the LaChance household.

First off, BIEBER FEVER! Yes, it has hit my home.
My daughter, ever the performer, loves to sing and dance around the house. 24-7. And she loves Justin Bieber. Wednesday, I received some free Sneak Peek tickets to his new movie. Though it was a school night, the movie started at 6, which would give ample time to have a girls night out and still make it to bed at a decent time for school. She was thrilled beyond thrilled.
I got out of work early, picked her up and headed to the movies.....along with a packed theater of "in-love" 6 to 15 year old girls (and their parents). Holy Cow!!! You would have thought we were seeing him in person. These girls were on emotion overload. Of course, they all wore purple! Did you know that??!! Purple is somehow now connected with all things Bieber?! I didn't, but I do now. Ironically, my daughter was wearing a purple shirt. Pure luck!
All the concert scenes are in 3D, so of course, your 3D glasses were purple too! And as the movie begins, and these girls start to scream with excitement, I realize the Marketing people behind this kid are genius. From the moment he steps on stage, and he stares into the camera and reaches out till you thing he is almost going to touch your shoulder, these girls are in a frenzy. Then add in all the sweet baby pictures, and the boy next door charm, working hard to make it to Madison Square Gardens....well, by the end, Mommy figured it out. She understood. This was their Leif Garrett, their Donny Osmond.
It brought back memories of my huge crush on David Cassidy! And I sat back and enjoyed watching my daughter mesmerized. She is too young yet to understand the full extent of a "crush" but as she whispered in my ear, "This is a fun night Mom", I knew my job was done. She had a good time. That is what it's all about.

Back to the Valentine's Day Cards. I picked these adorable cards at Target for her schoolmates.

She faithfully signed every one. And they will be packed up in her backpack, along with some yummy heart shaped Sweetheart candy boxes. Oh, how I loved getting cards when I was her age. And you can't go wrong with cupcake and ice cream cone cards!

Lastly, Julia insisted on getting Daddy something special. She already made him a card, and while we were shopping, she searched the shelves for something he would like.....and low and behold, she comes around the corner with a bouquet of roses. We were in Target? When did Target start selling roses???

I tried convincing her to get him something else, but she insisted. So, flowers it was. We got home and she proudly handed them to him, all the while telling him that I thought he wouldn't like them but she knew better. LOL He winked, and smiled, and gave her a big kiss. And they now sit at his desk along with his Robots. Nice touch don't you think?

FINALLY PUTTING PAINT TO BRUSH!

After 2 months off and numerous doctors' visits, I finally got back into the swing of things this weekend. I have been feeling great and I was determined to put some expressions on these naked snowman, no matter what. They have been sitting on my shelf for almost 3 months and it was time. With all the snow around me, it was a perfect scene to get me in the mood for some snow people.
So I woke up ready on Saturday with a plan. Get all the last minute things you need for the Super Bowl in the morning. (Can you all shout "chicken wings"!) Get the laundry done. Clean the bathroom. Get Julia dressed for a 2:00 birthday party.
Then relax.......hubby will take Julia to the party and I wlll have 2 hours to noodle around painting and organizing future projects.
Ta Da! My snow people have faces. Finally! Their is still more to do...rubbing in some detail and aging, embellishments, mica flakes and what nots, but at least I got started. Feels good.

As for the Super Bowl, the chicken wings were a big hit, the game was OK (no Patriots, so sad!), the commercials were OK, the music was boring, but I was glad to see Green Bay win. They finally made it happen without Favre and they can move on. Congrats.
Although I secreting have a crush on the Steelers coach Mike Tomlin......so cute! sssshhhh, don't tell. LOL

Super Bowl Party Recipe: Pastrami Chicken Wings!

I was surfing the net looking for new recipes. With all my stomach and gallbladder issues, I have to be careful what I eat right now. This recipe is NOT anything I should consider (LOL) but it looked sooooooo damn good. I am definitely trying this for Super Bowl Sunday just so I can sit and smell the fragrance. My husband Jeff will flip for these.
I love wings....or should I say I LOVE WINGS! But right now, wings do not love me back :(
So, while perusing through some boring, bland recipes, I stumble on this fantastic website, Foodwishes, that is chock full of recipes along with videos. I had to share with you all.
If you are like me, a visual person, you enjoy watching recipe videos. It helps the words make sense! And, low and behold, all the videos are on You Tube too!

LOOKING FORWARD TO A CREATIVE 2011

While I am still busy with doctor's visits, I wanted to at least touch base with you all to wish you a belated Happy New Year, and share just a couple photos from the holidays.
The first is an adorable ornament sent to me by my friend Mary Buckler. The detail is wonderful and the size is quite large. She remembered all my favorite things. The red and aqua colors are my favorite combination and the vintage plastic Santa in the middle adds to my enormous and ever growing collection of Santas. This is kitschy, and vintage, and makes me smile from ear to ear. Thank you Mary! This will sit front and center on my tree for any years to come.

The next photos are just a couple of the tree this year. This was the first year that I did not take command of the tree. I wasn't feeling well enough to tackle the tree, so my 6 year old daughter did most of the decorating. I handle the tippy top, she took care of everything else. She skipped a few ornaments.....she felt her tree was perfect without them. Normally, I let her decorate and then run around "fixing" everything - LOL. But, after a closer look, I left it all the same. She was proud of herself and so was I. Even without the tinsel and extra ornaments, it is one of my favorite trees because she felt so happy to help mommy while I was sick. She is a great kid.

I have some more photos to share soon. I bought myself some lovely ornaments that I know you will love, so stay tuned. I have been a little MIA these past weeks, but I am hoping to get back to creating and sharing with you all in the next few weeks. I'm so looking forward to getting back in the groove.

SO SATURDAY STARTS WITH A VISIT TO THE HOSPITAL....

Yep!! An unexpected trip to the Hospital is never fun. One that lasts until Tuesday night is even more "unfun"!
I had been feeling out of sorts for the last few days. Nausea, light headed, dizzy, and I was patiently waiting for the stomach bug to hit after so many friends had caught it. Saturday morning I was miserable. I felt if I didn't stay still I was going to pass out or heave, or both. My husband brought me to the emergency room and while I was there discussing the possibility of vertigo, they had been monitoring my heart. My heart had an unusual beat. Since it seemed to happen randomly, and they could not pinpoint why, they admitted me to monitor my heart. They were concerned that my heart may have caused the symptoms I was having. After every test in the book, they felt confident that my heart was not the issue and final released me last night.
Needless to say, I was ecstatic to be home. All I wanted was a hug from my little one, a kiss from my hubby, and a nice hot shower.
My boss was nice enough to let me have the rest of the week off. And it is sooooo appreciated.
I am going to relax, make a follow up visit to my primary care doc and see if I can get to the bottom of the nausea and lightheadedness.
One positive note out of this whole mess. It sure put Christmas into perspective. I am going to reduce some of my "to-do" lists and really enjoy the next few weeks of festivities. Join me! This time of the year is always hectic, but I am going to only do "what I have to" and leave the rest for another day. Now is the time to enjoy the wonders of Christmas.
I will share my adventures as they happen.

My FIRST GIVE-AWAY Alert !

Many of you know that blogging is a very new experience for me. I have truly enjoyed the experience and now wonder why I waited so long to join in the fun. I want to celebrate the holiday season by having my first Give-Away but I wanted it to be something special....something meaningful. (More on that in a bit.)
Since so many of you have made lovely comments about my vintage holiday domes, I have decided to keep this one off my Etsy site and share him.

Now more on the “meaningful” part. I originally was going to offer up a hand-molded paper mache piece (and I still will before the month is out – hint, hint) but the FIRST Give-Away had to feel “special” to me.
Christmas is about our family and friends, our faith, our traditions, and nothing sums up the season more for me than a glittery gold, vintage, dancing Santa. Gold Santas. Not red, not green, GOLD!
How strange, you say? Why?
Because these were the most glorious, shiny, magical, cutest things I ever saw when I was a child (and they still are to me). My mom tucked these away in every corner of the house and there was always one sitting in the fresh poinsettia plant on the dining room table. I sat for hours staring at him in the glistening light of the Christmas tree.

So, with that long winded story said, what better way to send out some of my family holiday spirit than to send you a vintage, bedazzling boogie-boy Santa dome! HOHOHO.
I hand-molded the mushrooms at his feet from paper clay, and covered his snowy base in mica and glitter…or should I say “glitta” for us Massachusetts girls.

ARE YA FEELIN' IT :)

This is one of my favorite weekends of the year. I LOVE THE WEEKEND AFTER THANKSGIVING. Don't get me wrong. It has nothing to do with the shopping. I loathe Black Friday shopping. I don't even leave my house on Friday. I stay home and recover from the huge amount of food I ate the day before.
What I DO love about this weekend...it is time for the Christmas decorating! Yippy.....heaven. I am sort of old school. I don't put out any Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. And this year made me nuts because holiday items were in the stores even before Halloween. So wrong!
This morning I started lugging up the plastic bins from the basement to get started. It's an adventure ever time. I mark each box, but the unwrapping of each piece covered in tissue paper makes it so exciting.
Here is a glimpse of my kitchen table covered in one of the opened boxes of Christmas goodness. Only 6 more bins to go :)

When my cats were still among us, I would pile the tissue paper up on the floor and they would hide in it and play for hours.
This year, I think the spirit of Yogi and BooBoo took over my daughter. I found her in the living room doing this!

I did venture out for a little bit today. The traffic was a little crazy, but I only hit Target for a few things and headed home. They had these adorable felt snowman ornaments that were so cute. And just $2.00!

These ornaments were very elegent. Look at those prices! Granted, they were not glass, but how lovely would these look on a tree if you had to decorate on a tight budget.

I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving. Tomorrow will be more decorating....and finally finishing up some WIP items to post on my Etsy shop next week :)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

It is about 6:00 on Wednesday night. Today, I have been busy preparing for Thanksgiving. The pies are baked. The brownies are made. The stuffing is yummy and the bird is prepped. All is well.
Tomorrow we will be all busy with family fun, eating way too much, and making memories.....oh, and did I mention eating way too much!
I have so much to be thankful for....too much to count. My list probably sounds much like yours. I am thanksful for my family and friends when so many in the world are lonely. I am thankful for the food on our table when so many in the world go hungry. I am thankful for my health when so many are sick and dying.
Here is my Thanksgiving wish to you all.
May your home (and heart) be filled with all those you love; a bountiful table; and much joy and laughter.

SO I GAVE MYSELF A CHALLENGE!

This past weekend I was to attend a craft fair. Though I had some great paper mache sculpted pieces to bring, I wanted to put together some quick "fun" pieces to go along with them. And as I fished through draws and draws of craft material, I thought to myself, "Girl, you have way to much stuff!!" Well, maybe, not in those words. But nothing I would be able to repeat without possible offending someone. LOL
So my personal challenge came to be! Use nothing but what you already have in the house. Get rid of the "collection" of craft material that sits in the boxes and drawers and finally do something....anything with them! So, tonight I will start to share some of these creations with you. And as they are finished, I will post. Hopefully this will inspire all you creative souls to try the same.
Think of it this way. It will free up some space so you can buy new stuff!!
So, where to begin....
Well, I had bought a bunch of glass domes ages ago. They were in AC Moore in the clearance section. I had no idea what I was going to do with them, but at the time, I "needed" them. They have sat in a box for almost a year. So much for "needing".
I wanted to find a base for them, but none of my wooden bases were big enough. Go figure.
And then I noticed my paper mache boxes. I have tons of these around the house waiting to be painted. The dome actual fit on the smaller box if I flipped it upside down. And the cover held it in place. Perfect!
I grabbed my box of vintage "kitschy" christmas love and got crackin'...you know you have the same box....admit it!
There were a tons of vintage paper mache snowmen that had seen better days. Some were missing parts, Others had their plastic hats broken. I never had the heart to throw them out (oh no!) so I gave them a little tender loving care, and tah dah.....cute winter wonderland scenes.

The cutie on the right is still waiting for his dome and "bling" trimmings. I had to cut the box down because he was a tall one!
That poor guy had half a hat, and his head was almost decapitated. So sad. He is happy now.

Now that Halloween has come and gone, my mind is focused on Christmas. I have several shows to get ready for, and I have been making tons of Christmas Magnets. These are Thank You gifts that I include with purchases for all my wonderful customers. These magnets always get me festive when I see them all grouped together. They are simple to make, and fun to look at. And I love including them in my packages as a fun surprise. Oh, how I love the holidays!!

One quick photo of my two loves .... Senorita Julia and Daddy the Chicken Man. Not sure why my husband decided to be a chicken (other than, he is crazy!). Julia loved her fancy dress and we jazzed it up with some hand made crepe paper flowers. It was a shame it was so cold and windy. We had to put on a shirt underneith and a jacket ... which always spoils the "look".

Whew, it is almost 9:00, and I am finally able to sit down from a crazy fun night of Trick or Treating. We had over 250 kids tonight. The weather was cold and windy, but it didn't stop the neighborhood from coming alive with Halloween Spirit. Julia was a Spanish Senorita. I will post a few pics tomorrow. Mom is too pooped for anything else tonight. Happy Halloween to you all!

MY OBSESSION.....

I admit it. I will not lie. I have become obsessed with owls.
I have always adored them, but lately, I have crossed the line from mildly fascinated to completely enthralled. October always brings out the owl fanatics. Something about Halloween and owls just seem to go together. But, for us year round lovers of these nocturnal animals, I would like to share with you these amazing creations. Below is a Barn Owl and Mouse. The fantastic owl was made by Helen Priem and the "too-cute-for-words" mouse was made by Barby Anderson. Does it get any better than this?!! Really??!! Look at those cheeks on that mouse....and those eyes!

THE COLORS OF HALLOWEEN

Orange, black and green - my FAVORITE colors of the season. I love creating for Halloween. When I was a kid, everything was always hand made - even your costume! Now-a-days, kids want to buy expensive fancy costumes; and it is rare to see hand carved real pumpkins anymore. So sad.
I have been making crepe paper collars for my Shakers in all my favorite colors. I might even use some of these collars to create some ornaments for the feather tree with some scraps or vintage images.

The Shakers have their collars and ribbon. (Don't you love the pom-pom ribbon!) I have aged their faces for a vintage look and even added some black ric-rac around the faces. Now it is time to finish up the the rest and, start some last minute "ghosts". I have been dying to break out the glow in the dark glitter again :)

JOL SHAKER WIPS

Finally started to get back into the swing of things after a long couple of weeks at work. To get my creative juices flowing, I like to paint. It is the instant gratification (verse waiting days for your paper mache sculptures to dry!).
Every year, I make some shakers for Halloween. Nothing crazy....just fun little pieces to decorate the house and give out to family and friends. And if I make more than I need, I throw a couple of listings on Etsy.
Yesterday, in between loads of laundry, cooking, a trip to the craft store, and other regular Sunday shenanagans, I was able to paint the dowels, fill the "heads" with rice (it's not a shaker without some NOISE!) and paint some funny vintage inspired JOL faces.
Tonight, attach the dowels, rub on some antiquing gel, add some crepe paper and ribbon embellishments, maybe a hint of glitter.....who knows!
Got to love those vintage faces!

FLU SHOT DAY!

Whew!
It has been a hectic week!
The first week in October is National Customer Service Week. Each year, the supervisors and managers (of my day job) get together to plan a week long celebration for all the men and women who work so hard in our call center, inside sales department, and order management departments.
The party has come and gone (pictures soon to follow) and I can now get back on track.
I have just come back from getting my yearly Flu Shot. I think of it as a way to stay healthy and an excuse to get a "free" cookie afterwards - LOL
I encourage you all to go do the same!

I spent the weekend trying to decorate the house for Halloween and finish up on some Halloween pieces! I am knee high in "spooky fun" and praying that I actually get all the pieces done by the end of the week. I will be listing this Boo JOL tomorrow on my Etsy site. He (or she) is full of sparkle and you can't see it very well in this photo, but the crackle on the body and face came out really nice.
You never know what the crackle will look like until you antique......it is such an adventure!

I have been busy finishing up on some Halloween pieces. The cooler weather just gets you in the mood! I took a quick picture of this one and thought I would share. I love old vintage holiday postcards and wanted the pumpkin girl to have the same adorable look. She has glitter on the black edges of the base, and everything, including the pumpkin, have been crackled. I will list her on Etsy later on tonight.

I cannot believe that it is September 16th. Time is flying at lightning speed. I have so much to share with you all and I can't seem to get a minute to do it all. So, just to keep thing fresh, I wanted to share my Sneaky Kitty for 2010. As you can see from my avitar, I use this little guy for lots of fun pieces. He is just so stinkin' cute, and probably one of my most popular items on Etsy. He always flies out of the shop. I didn't want to do the "same-old-thang" with him for 2010, so I decided to use a moon for the base this year. He is made from an adorable chocolate mold that I have in my collection of never ending "stuff"!! I love to make something using old molds in between hand sculpting my pieces. There is just something so charming about them and sooo vintage. But I am never happy to just paint-and-go, so I have to add some special touches. This year it was a hand molded moon base. Hope you like him. You can't see it to well in the photo, but he has glittery polka dots on his collar in black - tone on tone - very sparkly. Oh, I wish I was a better photographer.
I have another black kitty coming that is sitting on a pumpkin base (very traditional). And, of course, I have several OOAK JOL's that are all hand sculpted and waiting for there final touches. I so hope to get them done by the weekend.
I don't know how anyone else feels, but I seem to ALWAYS be behind!!! Maybe it is because I start so many projects at once, and feel like I am not getting anywhere with any of them - LOL
And now that Julia is in school and she has homework every night - jeez, I have even less time......oh to have a few more hours in the day,

Sylvia Smiser was my partner for the Halloween Tea Party Swap. Boy did I get lucky!!!! Look what she came up with for me. I love her....love love love!!!! She looks amazing in person. I stink with a camera in my hand!!! And I noticed that I forgot to take a picture with her witch hat. I was so excited, I didn't know what I was doing. How cool is she???!!!! The workmanship on this was spectacular. I will say it over and over - I LOVE HER!!!

MY FIRST SWAP IS IN THE MAIL.....

I have never signed up for an "official" organized swap before. I have traded with artist friends in the past but have always stayed clear of large organized Swaps. Not that I wasn't interested! Quite on contrary. My fear was that I would not get it done in time, or I would have a partner that I knew very little about and would make something they absolutely hated! LOL

But, I have stuck my feet in the water and sent out my first "legit" swap package for fellow artist Sylvia Smiser from Anabo Creations. I hope she likes it....keeping my fingers crossed. It should arrive in her mail today.

I used paper mache to give the JOL Tea Pot a textured, old time feel. The box has a hand painted image similar to an old Halloween postcard that I loved. The tag was tea stained and stamped. And inside there are tea bags in stamped brown craft paper bags as a little surprise.

This JOL has a little devilish friend trying to hide inside and steal your drink out from under you. Watch out!!

BACK TO SCHOOL

Julia returned to school on the 3rd. Ever since she was 3 months old, she has gone to daycare every weekday while I was at work. Out of the house at 8:00 and not home till after 5:00. When the summer arrived, my husband and I decided to give her a "real" summer vacation by letting her stay at home with him during July and August. Thankfully, he works from home, and was able to arrange his schedule to fit some playtime in for the summer. Now, at the age of 6, she is ready for 1st grade and attending a new school. This is an enormous change for her, and I have been very apprehensive about the outcome. She was so excited to start, and had a difficult time sleeping that night. If truth be told, "mommy" didn't sleep well either! Here she is in all her glory on her first day. The eyes say it all....excited with a touch of uncertainty. She waited in line with all the other kids until her teacher arrived and they were walked into the classroom. No tears from her ...... tons of tears from mom! She looked so small. The school looked so large. And I hoped that she would make new friends and have a good day. She did! The second day was not as easy. She missed the routine of her old school. She missed her friends. But each day will get better. It always does.

IT'S FEELING LIKE HALLOWEEN

The last few days have been rainy and cold; a far cry from the hot and humid weather of the summer. As my Mom always said...."it smells like school!" For me, it felt like Halloween today. I have been working on new fall designs, but while I wait for them to become reality, I wanted to share one of my favorite local artists with you. Mister Reusch

A few years back, my husband and I attended one of his art shows. Jeff had met him through some mutual artist friends and they share a common interest in poster art (both being very talented gigposter artists). My husband fell in love with this pieces and of course, being the good wife, I purchased this original painting for him. My poor photo does not do it justice.

Mister Reusch is a freelance illustrator, poster artist, and teacher at Massachusetts College of Art.

MOM AND DAD

Last week, I was able to take some time off from work and visit my parents for a few days. They have both reached a point where travel is out of the question. My mom has two bad knees but refuses to have surgery at her age, and at 78, I can't really blame her. My Dad has become quite fragile and requires constant care. He suffers from Pulminary Fibrosis and needs the aid of an oxygen tank to breath around the clock. Now in his 80's, he is quite cranky, and frustrated with his lack of independent life. But these few days were filled with laughs and joy. My daughter does not get to see my parents often, and they enjoyed watching her silliness. She was more than willing to sing and dance for them; and enjoyed going through my mother's jewelry collection. She is such a girlie girl!

While there, I was able to go through some old photos. I grabbed a stack of photo albums to bring home. The next few days will be tied up scanning all the important, funny, and memory-filled photos. My hope is to use the digital print-outs for hand made ornaments this upcoming Christmas. They would make wonderful gifts for my brother and sister, and I would love to have a tree filled with all these memories.....my family tree! :)

I will share the progress as I go along. It might inspire you to try something similar with your family photos.

Here are a few of the old photos of my parents that I came across. They looked so young and ready for life. Dad, looking so handsome in his uniform; and my Mom beaming with my Dad as they begin their life together. The beach scene below with the older cars in the background was taken about 10 years later - the cars are a hoot to see.

SPECIAL CREATION ....

A lovely collector of my pieces, Sharon from My Vintage Studio, had requested a special design. She wanted to incorporate roses into the theme and offered up some ideas, but really left me to do whatever I thought would like nice. This is a close up snip-it of the design I shipped out to her a few days ago. I hope she loves it as much as I enjoyed making it for her.

I was in the middle of creating Christmas items to post on my Etsy shop for the month of July, and when she emailed me, I was thrilled to have a new "outlet" for my creativity. How fun to do something other than a holiday theme for a change! The only ideas.....the recipient loves vintage china, roses, pinks, etc.

I was leaning toward a "cone" filled with roses, etc., or something sculpted in an old tea cup; but as with most of my designs, they take on a life of their own, and I ended up changing to a base that could stand alone on a table or be hung from the twisted copper wire. Why not be able to bring it in any room of the house, right?!

The container is covered in various scrapbooking paper with pink roses and text. It was toned down with some random splashes of texture medium and lightly crackled and aged. I hand sculpted and painted the small doll head to be similar in style to the vintage Frozen Charlotte dolls (which Sharon seemed to like). There is rich moss, lovely pink, cream and lavendar paper roses, ribbons, and hints of vintage mica flakes throughout the piece. I hope you love her Sharon! She should be at your doorstep any day now.

THE BEGINNING

Here I am. The beginning. The FIRST post.

I have read some wonderful blogs over the last year, all the time wondering, should I venture into this myself? Do I have anything interesting to share? Will anyone want to read it? Do I even have the time to devote to keeping it fresh and new?

Well, here I sit, with no real answers to any of these questions, but I am sticking my toes in the water. What's the worst that can happen, right?

I have just spent the evening with my 6 year old daughter watching ICarly and eating the warm cake she helped me bake and decorate (pink frosting with teal, yellow and mint green sprinkles). It is girls night. No boys allowed.

Daddy went out to a concert and we had the place to ourselves. We got to act silly, have a pillow fight and giggle. Now, I sit here, exhausted, ready for bed but wanting to get this web page started before I change my mind. LOL

So, I guess the best place to start is to let you know my stats. (You will get to "know" me as time goes on.)

I am a fourty-something (too close to 50 for comfort) married, artist from Massachusetts.

My husband is a full time Graphic Designer and Illustrator who has been giving the "self-employment" route a try. Though not easy, I think with time, it will prove to be a positive turning point.

I, on the other hand, still work a full time job for a screen printing company, and create my holiday designs during the free moments I have, and the late hours when everyone is sleeping.

I hope to keep things interesting for you as I go along. I will post some photos of my one-of-a-kind holiday pieces, share some of the wonderful vintage finds I pick-up, tell some stories, and hopefully not bore you to tears.
